Massage table not needed!

I commenced Emmett Therapies with QR Rockhampton Depot in January 2011 on a ‘reduce time off work due to injury’ program. My service with the locomotive and wagon maintenance crew was one day a fortnight and worked in conjunction with an attending physiotherapist.

The work with QR/Aurizon was extremely rewarding though I did find it a challenge at the beginning.

I was assigned the small first aid room in which to work, so I found two chairs and set to work. I did wonder if I would be able to get the results I was hoping to achieve while having just a chair for the guys to sit on and the limited time of 15 to 20 minutes.

It didn’t take long to adapt however. The Emmett Therapy is extremely versatile and the results were very pleasing. Not having a massage table to work on was not a disadvantage in any way. At times, depending on the discomfort, the treatment would be finished in 5 to 10 minutes.

The number of men attending for the Emmett varied; approximately 15 to 23 each therapy day depending on shifts, holidays, off site work etc. Some of the guys would come in for the Emmett treatment when they were not rostered on, or for a couple of the men, when they were on holidays.

The feedback from the men was very pleasing. Though every pain wasn’t eliminated, a high percentage of pain and discomfort was reduced or eliminated successfully and immediately, including some pains that had been experienced over long periods of time.

Over a two year period, though the comparative data was not made available to me, the Emmett Therapy program was considered very successful. Time off work due to injury had been reduced.

In February this year with the change from QR to Aurizon and costs reductions, the number of personnel at the Rockhampton Depot fell dramatically and was it was no longer viable to continue with the Emmett Therapy or Physio services.

I left Aurizon, happy with my Emmett Therapies accomplishments, and with an excellent reference from the manager of the Rockhampton Depot.
