EMMETT Therapies

Have you ever wanted a way to quickly relieve muscular pain for your patients?

Welcome,

Do your patients suffer from unbearable pain of arthritis, muscular pain or headaches? Emmett Technique is a unique body therapy technique created by Ross Emmett. It is so effective and acceptable that medical practitioners and lay therapists alike are requesting to learn it. Treatments can be done fully clothed and incorporate a gentle, physical release of muscle groups while using a verbal approach to create attitude change.

Ross Emmett's "Emmett Technique” has been growing in popularity worldwide since he first started teaching the technique in 1999. The technique has wide appeal: not only is it being enthusiastically picked up by Bowen therapists, massage therapists and medical staff, but we are seeing an increasing number of exercise professionals such as Pilates Instructors and Personal Trainers eager to learn and use this remarkable technique. It is a technique which can be used in a truly complementary way with any other body work or exercise system offering a valuable addition to anyone working to ease pain and discomfort or restore musculoskeletal function to others. That's how Ross encourages all of us to use his work, though it is a powerful standalone technique in its own right.

Ross developed his skills intuitively in his early years working with animals and had no formal qualifications when he first began treating people. Although a highly qualified therapist now, his qualifications do not adequately reflect his ability as a practitioner. He has a unique and special gift which no one who sees him work would deny. The close comparison between Ross and Tom Bowen has been noted by those who saw Tom work. Romney Smeeton, now a close personal friend of Ross, has attended many of his courses and counts himself fortunate to have been taught by two extraordinarily gifted therapists in his time.

Despite the similarities between the two men the Emmett Technique is NOT a Bowen Therapy or a derivation of it. Developed long before Ross came across Tom’s work his technique is very different. There is no skin slack; there are no prescribed procedures and only a few set sequences; instead therapists are encouraged to respond to the changes they are seeing in the client from moment to moment. The Emmett Technique uses switches and holding points to effect immediate releases in surrounding muscle tissue. Techniques derived from Ross's observation skills are also integrated within the treatment to encourage positive outcomes.

Overwhelming feedback from Bowen Therapists is that the Emmett Technique has transformed their practice; in particular the speed with which they can effect changes to clients, dramatically improving client outcomes and their own reputations. His lymphatic drainage protocol is proving to be exceptionally quick and successful for clients with oedema.

Ross has developed two courses for those who want to learn his technique:

  • The Emmett Technique Practitioners Course is suitable for therapists and medical professionals, although non-therapists are welcome. It comprises 6 modules, of which Modules 1 & 2 are taught together as a two day unit. Subsequent modules are two days long: one day of review and one day of new material.
  • Alternatively, the EMM-Tech Short Course is suitable for anyone - carers, trainers, coaches and the general public. It is also a good introduction for therapists to Ross’ work. Participants learn moves taken from the full course in an 8 hour day or two 4 hour sessions.
