Debbie Kinley - Emmett Therapies Co-Ordinator UK

Debbie KinleyUntil Debbie attended a one-day workshop with Ross Emmett in April 2007, the highlight of her therapy career was the eight months she had spent treating people with Bowen therapy in a private clinic in Mauritius.  The workshop was to completely change her life, as she immediately signed up to learn the full Emmett Technique.  Within six months, Debbie had given up her “day job” and opened her own Therapy Centre, offering a blend of Bowen and Emmett to a range of clients.
“Emmett really changed me from a “person who did therapy” into a confident and enquiring Therapist.  Suddenly, I found the door was open to all sorts of learning I had not previously considered and I found that my understanding of the human body had just become so much more complete.”

Debbie Kinley and Ross Emmett during Emmett Technique training in LondonWhen Gillie La Haye, who had been responsible for organising Ross’s workshop and subsequent courses in England, decided to stand down from the Co-ordinator’s position, Debbie was ready to take it on.  Today, her therapy practice continues to grow and she combines this work with acting as a Tutor for Emm-Tech and co-ordinating the Emmett and TBT101 courses for Ross, Regi Scherrer and Sue Gassick in the UK, attending as many reviews and new courses as possible.

And now, here is the news from the UK.

Tom Bowens Therapy group with Regi Scherrer October 2009The first TBT101 was delivered in the UK during October 2009, generating a lot of very positive feedback.  The fully-booked course attracted a mixture of those who had already studied Bowen Therapy, those who were trained in Emmett Technique and others who used other forms of bodywork entirely.  One comment from a participant was:
Ross Emmett's return to the original moves used by Tom, informed as they are by his deep understanding from his own work, feels intuitively correct. Tom Bowen's Therapy does make me feel as if I am returning to the source and connecting with the man himself."
The second part of this course will be held in January and already an additional course has been arranged with Regi to cope with the demand. Details are on the UK website, www.emmett-technique.co.uk

Emmett and Bowen therapist, Liz James, appeared on television when she treated members of her local football team, Paulton United.  The amateur village team made national headlines when they were drawn against Norwich City in the first round of the FA Cup and Liz, too, became a local hero for her work.  Sadly, the giant-killing dream did not last.

Debbie Kinley and Colin Buck have been using Emmett at staff Health and Fitness Days in the Prison Service, to great effect.  Management at one prison are looking at the possibility of making this therapy available for staff and have even considered commissioning an Emm-Tech course for their Gymnasium staff.

Emm-Tech continues to be a popular choice for therapists and several of the UK Emm-Tech tutors have been sharing the work with groups of professionals from Scotland to Bristol, virtually the length of the British Isles.  These courses often act as a “taster” for the full Emmett course and more are being planned in the North-East and in Ireland to further spread the word.
